Bangalore Literature Festival - A feast

Shiv quoted at the end of the day; "Day starts with Gulzar saab and Prasoon Joshi and ends with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia".... What an epic day!! Last Saturday three friends(Manju, Shiv and me) enjoyed whole day like school kids! Yes, like school kids we discussed how many books we brought, how many got signed by authors and were amazed by the knowledge flew around us on a cloudy Saturday on lawns of Crown Plaza! Every discussion was unique. About poems, about writers, about writing performing arts, about current trends and about different languages what not. There were parallel sessions going on, it was so difficult to choose between one among two..:( Manju came to my help to make me understand gulzar's poems; I got a feeling that i should learn hindi to read and understand his poems. Right after this I rushed to hear from a kannada panel. The discussion was about the works of Kuvempu, Maasti, Kaaranta and Kambaara. I knew a little about them, but to get to hear from scholars was just blissful! I met Kambara and spoke to him for few mintues..yey!

I will just mention the variety of the events organized. If I start explain about each one of them, it may take many pages. I attended few discussions, I will try to mention some of the key topics discussed. There was a discussion about literature festival itself. Do you guys know where did this literature festival come from? any guesses? Yeah, you must be thinking, this might have come from the west could be the answer! William dalrymple explained it's origin! Basava Kalyana is the answer, we started literature festivals..Isn't it a wonderful feeling :) How many of you know Beary(ಬ್ಯಾರಿ) language? There 16 lakh people speak beary language all over the world and most of them in karnataka! Along with this, the panelists spoke about Konkani, Kodava and tulu languages and their culture :)

Right after this, the big debate started. Best sellers versus literary books! Is best sellers a trend? Shobha De, Aswin Sanghi, Shashi Deshpande and Ian Jack were the panelists. The discussion was so much fun with learning. How books become best sellers and at the same time how good books survive for generations was the take away from the discussion..and you know how fun it will be when Shoba De on stage(I meant in literary sense) ;)

Energy of the festival was increased like RCB score when Gayle is batting...Here the Gayle was replaced by our own Ramachandra Guha, his topic was; Is history a literature or social science. His lecture was amazing with clear facts! It was a history class but not a boring one like our old history classes during our school days. And the best is yet to come! That was  Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia's music concert. He was accompanied by Subhankar Banerjee with tabala. We were so high with the music, believe me; no drink would have taken me into that level... Not at all possible.. Music has such a power and we were blessed to be there and to witness such a wonderful evening.

Event happened from September 27th to 29th in Crown plaza, electronic city. There were many best known writers visited BLF. As I could attend only one day, have capture only Saturday's experience. I must thank the organizers and volunteers. Everything was perfect. A very good place, food was amazing, book stalls and sit out area was best suited for book lovers. Thank you Vikram Sampath, Nanditha, Friends of BLF and volunteers team. And with wonderful friends, happiness increases! Manju and Shiv increased my happiness. We created wonderful memories for lifetime :) Thanks BLF! 

Volunteers; I can just say thank you! I know how difficult it is to organize such a big event :)

ನನ್ನ ಬದುಕು ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನ ಕನಸು! ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನ ಬದುಕು ನನ್ನ ಕನಸೇ?

 ಬದುಕಿನ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಂತೋಷಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೆ ಜೀವನ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ. ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹಲವಾರು ಜನರ ಜೊತೆ ಬೆರೆತು ಕಲಿತ ಸತ್ಯ! ಇಂತಹ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಣ್ಣ ತುಣುಕುಗಳೇ ಚಿತ್ರವಾದಾಗ? ಹೌದು ಲೂಸಿಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಹಲವಾರು ಜನ ಹಲವು ವಿಚಾರಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಇಷ್ಟ ಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಾನು ಇಷ್ಟಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು ಮೇಲಿನ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ :)  ನಾನು ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದೇ ಕಡಿಮೆ, ಅಂತದ್ರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾನು ಅಷ್ಟು ಬುದ್ದಿವಂತನಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಇರುವುದೆಲ್ಲವ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಇರದುದೆರೆಡೆಗೆ ತುಳಿಯುವ ಪ್ರಾಣಿ, ಕನಸು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಾ ಬದುಕುವ ಜೀವ. ಇದೆ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಮೂಲ. ನಾಯಕನ ಕನಸೇ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಓಡಿಸುತ್ತೆ. ನೋಡಿದವರಿಗೆ ಇದೊಂದು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಬಜೆಟ್ ಪಿಕ್ಚರ್ ಎಂದು ಅನಿಸುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅಷ್ಟರ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಎಡಿಟಿಂಗ್(editing) ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯ ತಪ್ಪು ಸಂದೇಶ ಕೊಡುವಂಥಹ ಸಿನ್ಗಳಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಪವನ್ರ ಕನಸಿನ ಕೂಸು. ಬದುಕಿನ ಆಳಗಳನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಜನಕ್ಕೆ ಮನರಂಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಉಣಬಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಕಥೆಯೇ ಮೂಲಾಧಾರ. ಯಾವುದೇ ಸೂಪರ್ ಹೀರೋಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಚಿತ್ರ ಇನ್ನು ಓಡುತ್ತಿದೆ ಅಂದರೆ ನೀವೇ ಯೋಚಿಸಿ. ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಜನಕ್ಕೆ ತೋರಿಸುವುದು ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅದನ್ನು ಪವನ್ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪವನ್ ಗೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತಾರೆ.

 ನಾಯಕ, ಸತೀಶ್ ನೀನಾಸಂ. ಇದು ಒಂಥರಾ ದ್ವಿಪಾತ್ರ ಅಭಿನಯ, ಇಲ್ಲೇ ನೋಡಿ ಚಾಲೆಂಜ್. ಒಂದು ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನ ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಇವನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಅನಿಸಿದರೆ ಅವನೇ ಸರಿಯಾದ ಕಲಾವಿದ. ಸತೀಶ, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಗೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅವನ ಮುಗ್ದತೆ ಜನರ ಮನಸನ್ನು ಗೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತೆ. ಅವನ ಮಾತು, ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮವನೇ ಈ ಹೈದ ಎಂದು ಅನಿಸುತ್ತೆ. ಇಕ್ಕಿ ಅಲ್ಲ ನಿಕ್ಕಿ, ನನಗೆ ಅವನ ಕನಸಿನ ಪಾತ್ರದಲ್ಲೇ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗಿದ್ದು. ಅವನ ನಿಜ ಜೀವನದ ಪಾತ್ರ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸಲಿಸಾಗಿರಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಸೂಪರ್ ಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಆಗಿ ಅವನ ಅಭಿನಯ, ಗಾಂಭೀರ್ಯ ಮೆಚ್ಚುವಂತದ್ದು.

ನಾಯಕಿ, ಶ್ರುತಿ. ನಮ್ಮ ಪಕ್ಕದ ಮನೆಯ ಹುಡುಗಿಯಂತೆ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ಇವಳ ಪಾತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ನೈಜತೆ ಎದ್ದು ಕಾಣುತ್ತೆ. ಅಭಿನಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವಳು ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಪಾತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೆಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಪೋಷಕ ಪಾತ್ರ, ಅಚ್ಯುತ ಕುಮಾರ್. ಕಾಯಕವೇ ಕೈಲಾಸ ಈ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಬಹುದು. ಬಹಳ ಅನುಭವದ ನಟರು, ನಾನು ಯಾವ ದೊಣ್ಣೆ ನಾಯಕ ಅವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬರೆಯೋಕೆ :) ಪುರ್ರ್ ಎಂದು ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಏನೋ ಎಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪೋಲಿಸ್ ಆಫೀಸರ್ ಕೂಡ ನನಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದ ಪಾತ್ರ. 

ಸಂಗೀತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನನಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ಜ್ಞಾನ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಹಾಡುಗಳ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಮೊದಲೇ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ಪೂರ್ಣಚಂದ್ರ ಯಾವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಮತ್ತು ಯಾರಿಗೂ;) ಕೊರತೆ ಬರದಂತೆ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ರೀತಿಯ ಹಾಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕ್ಯಾಮರ ಮ್ಯಾನ್ ಕೆಲಸವೂ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಅದ್ಭುತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಕ್ಯಾಮೆರಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಸ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಎಂದು ಓದಿದ್ದೆ.

PS: ಒಂದೆರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಒದ್ದೆಯಾದರೂ ಆಗಬಹುದು!
